Wei-En Tan, Ph.D.
Wei-En Tan, Ph.D. runs Attitude Aviation, which focuses on specialized training for pilots, including tailwheel endorsements, aerobatics, and spin training for CFIs. She has thousands of hours in aerobatic and emergency maneuver training in tailwheel aircraft and obtained her instructor’s license over twenty years ago. She has flown jets, is type-rated and flies the DC-3 (a giant tail-wheel), and has worked with the FAA safety team FAAST to design safety seminars and flight-training for Emergency Maneuvers. Wei-En is passionate about aviation safety, and is a competition aerobatic pilot.
Wei-En obtained her Ph.D. Masters, and Bachelors in Mathematics, Econometrics, Statistics, French and Comparative Literature at Stanford, Harvard and Cornell Universities. She has managed and structured hedge funds, and has worked in leadership positions in aerospace, clean energy, and finance. In 2017, she co-founded a Silicon Valley-based company in AI Medical Imaging, which currently has deployments in hospitals and clinics globally.
Originally from Singapore, Wei-En considers herself semi-retired at this point and teaches out of her love of aviation and passion for flying. She owns three restaurants (Friendship Kitchen 1, 2 and 3 as well as Stem Wine Bar) in the Portland area. Please go have a bite!
Travis Van Hoosen
Travis provides tailwheel transition training and spin endorsements for flight instructors at Attitude Aviation. A tailwheel enthusiast, Travis is a committed to learning as much as he can about all the facets of aviation, and from there, to be able to provide a clear understanding of all the information that isn’t intuitive to his students.
Travis began his pilot adventures in 2021, and considers himself very fortunate to be able to fly so many exciting planes that he loves, as well as be in a position to continue his love for aviation. Travis is also a full time primary instructor for student pilots learning how to fly.
